Root canal treatment
The vast majority of toothaches are caused by some form of inflammation of the periodontium. Our teeth are hollow inside. In the centre of the tooth is the periodontal chamber and the canal system that runs from it to the roots.
This space contains the blood vessels and nerves that feed the tooth. When tooth decay approaches the pulp chamber, the periodontal cavity increases blood flow to the tooth and becomes more sensitive to tooth stimuli as a defence. If the process is not stopped at this point, the tissues of the periodontal cavity will become inflamed or necrotic, requiring root canal treatment.
What is root canal treatment?
Root canal treatment means completely disinfecting and then sealing the interior of the tooth to prevent further infection. This process is one of the most complex tasks of dentistry, these canals are not simple tunnels in the root of the tooth, but contain complex ramifications and numerous connections between the roots, curving back and forth, with many constrictions. The root canal and the disinfected canal are sealed with a state-of-the-art heated root sealant, which not only completely seals the main canal, but also the smaller branches.
How many occasions does root canal treatment comprise?
Since the aim is to disinfect, we try to treat as few times as possible to ensure the best conditions for bacteria reduction.
If it is a one-off root canal treatment, is that one treatment very long and demanding?
No, because nowadays root canal treatment is no longer done with manual files, but with a special metal (NICKEL-TITANIUM) machine, which greatly reduces the treatment time. With these metal alloys it is even possible to handle extremely curved roots.
Root treatment with the most modern technology!
It is important that the doctor is aware of the exact length of the root canal in order to perform the root canal properly. This is the purpose of the accurate and modern, so called apex locator. The electric channel locator is a favourite tool in modern dentistry. Thanks to accurate and precise measurement, a good root filling is neither shorter nor longer than the actual length of the root canal.
